Many types of seabird can be found on the Cowal shoreline, including Grey Herons, Cormorants, Oystercatchers, Redshanks, Ringed Plovers, Curlews as well as Gulls and Mute Swans. Some of them spend their winters at sea and are found near the coast in the summer when they arrive to breed. These include Gannets, Manx Shearwaters, Guillemots and Kittiwakes. In addition, there is always the special treat of seeing porpoises, seals and (more rarely) dolphins, sharks and even the odd stray whale.
